Qatar Central Bank's 2007 series was the first full issue produced after the bank formally separated its currency operations from the Qatar Monetary Agency, which had overseen note issuance since 1973. The 100 Riyals is the highest denomination in that series, printed by De La Rue under a long-standing contract that predates Qatari independence itself — the same London firm printed Qatar and Dubai Currency Board notes from 1960.
The holographic foil patch on this denomination was a direct response to counterfeiting pressure across the Gulf, where high-value notes circulate heavily in cash-dominant economies.
