Nepal Rastra Bank issued this 100-rupee piece to commemorate Nai Academy, the institutional body representing the Nai community — a traditional barber caste whose occupational and cultural role long predates formal guild recognition in Nepal. Commemorative copper-nickel issues from Kathmandu in this denomination have become increasingly routine since the 2010s, with the central bank issuing them in relatively small quantities aimed primarily at collectors rather than circulation.
