The somoni series, introduced in 2000 to replace the transitional Tajik ruble, was named after Ismoil Somoni — the tenth-century Samanid ruler whose dynasty is considered the foundation of Tajik national identity. The 100-somoni denomination sits at the top of the regular circulation series and was printed by Giesecke & Devrient, whose Munich facility has handled currency production for numerous post-Soviet central banks navigating early institutional credibility problems.
The 2013 date marks a reissue within an ongoing series rather than a new design initiative. Pick 27 is the standard reference for this denomination across several print runs.
