Mongolia's 100 Tögrög denomination has occupied the lower-middle register of the currency since the 1990s series, and by 2020 the design had gone through several iterative updates under De La Rue's ongoing contract with Mongolbank. This particular issue carries the see-through register — a paired printed element split across both faces that only aligns when held to light — a feature De La Rue began incorporating more systematically into lower-denomination Asian issues after its uptake proved cost-effective at volume.
Cotton substrate at this denomination is a deliberate choice; Mongolia's extreme continental climate, with temperature swings exceeding 70°C between seasons, degrades polymer issues faster than most central banks accept.
