1000 Denari

Macedonia's 1996 series was the young republic's first serious attempt at a durable, internationally credentialed currency — the country had only introduced the denar in 1992 after separating from Yugoslavia, and early notes were produced under considerable time pressure. By the mid-1990s, contracting De La Rue brought the printing standards in line with regional peers.

P#18 sits at the top of that original series. The security package — watermark and thread only — is modest by later Macedonian standards, though entirely typical for De La Rue commissions at this price point in the mid-1990s.
