The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic operated as an unrecognized state throughout its existence, and its coin program was never intended for circulation — these were issued purely as numismatic revenue, with distribution handled through foreign dealers rather than domestic banking channels. The republic's Central Bank had no internationally recognized standing, which meant these pieces occupied an unusual legal gray zone in the collector market.
Artsakh's formal dissolution came in September 2023 following Azerbaijani military operations, ending over three decades of disputed sovereignty.
