Mali withdrew from the West African Monetary Union in 1962 and issued its own franc, only to negotiate reentry into the CFA zone in 1967 — a reversal that took years to fully implement at the note level. This series, running from 1970 through 1984, bridges that awkward reintegration period, when the Malian franc was being pegged and ultimately wound down before the country fully rejoined the BCEAO system in 1984.

Banque de France printing throughout the series is consistent with French technical assistance arrangements common to former AOF territories. The watermark is the sole mechanical security feature — no security thread, no fluorescent ink.
