1000 Francs Independence

The Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique Équatoriale et du Cameroun was itself a transitional institution — it replaced the colonial-era currency board structure following the independence of the constituent states in the early 1960s and was later dissolved in 1972 when the Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale took over. This 1970 issue falls near the end of that institution's short operational life.

The Independence series was struck at the Paris Mint and issued for all five member states simultaneously — Chad, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, and Cameroon — each carrying country-specific designs but sharing identical specifications across the set.
