Pick 32A had an unusually long run for a Lao issue — over two decades without a design replacement, which reflects both the denomination's workhorse role in everyday transactions and the Bank of the Lao PDR's conservative approach to series management during a period of sustained but cautious economic reform. The 1000 Kip sat below the threshold where sophisticated counterfeiting became economically attractive, which partly explains the minimal security specification: watermark only, no metallic thread.
Cotton substrate was standard across the series, sourced in line with regional central bank procurement norms of the late 1990s.
