| 表面の説明 | The four Landvættir (protective spirits) of Iceland are depicted in relief across the field: Griðungur the bull, Gammur the great eagle, Dreki the dragon, and Bergrisi the mountain giant, arranged in a heraldic composition recalling the traditional coat of arms of Iceland. The design is rendered in a stylized, modernist idiom. The circular legend appears around the design, and the denomination and issuer name are inscribed in the field in Icelandic. |

Iceland's millennium settlement coinage was issued to mark 1100 years since the first permanent Norse settlement of the island, traditionally dated to 874 AD when Ingólfur Arnarson established his farmstead at what is now Reykjavík. The Central Bank commissioned this heavy sterling piece as part of a broader commemorative program — an unusual move for a nation that had, for most of its monetary history, relied on Danish coin production rather than domestic minting.
Designed by Gunnlaugur Scheving, the issue was struck at the Royal Mint in London.
