Obverse description Intaglio-printed vignettes after paintings by Nicolae Grigorescu fill the left and right borders, each framing groups of Romanian peasant women in traditional dress with children in rural settings, rendered in a fine engraved style against a blue and grey underprint. A large circular guilloche rosette occupies the centre, with the denomination UNA MIE LEI in bold letterpress below, flanked by the GUVERNATOR and CASIER CENTRAL signature titles. The bank title BANCA NAȚIONALĂ A ROMÂNIEI appears in a panel across the top, with the issue date 10 Septembrie 1941 and anti-counterfeiting warning text printed at the foot.

Reverse description Two peasant women in traditional Romanian folk costume stand at left, one shouldering an axe, engraved after a Grigorescu composition in blue-grey intaglio tones. At right, a single female figure stands beside a wooden ladder in a vineyard or orchard setting. The centre is reserved for a large circular watermark zone, and the whole is enclosed within an elaborate scrollwork and rosette border with the numeral 1000 in each corner medallion.
