Western Sahara has no functioning government with recognized coining authority — the territory has been administered by Morocco since 1976, and the Polisario Front's Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, while recognized by some states, has never operated a mint. Coins issued under the "Western Sahara" name are produced by private minting companies for the collector market, with no circulation history whatsoever.
