Banco Nacional Ultramarino's earliest colonial note issues were frequently adapted from metropolitan plate designs rather than commissioned from scratch, and Bradbury Wilkinson supplied several Portuguese colonial territories with near-identical base printings distinguished only by overprints, serial prefixes, or handstamped authorization seals.
