The Georgian Democratic Republic declared independence from the collapsing Russian Empire in May 1918, and its currency regime was correspondingly improvised. The 1000 Rouble note of 1919 was issued under severe fiscal pressure, as the young republic was simultaneously managing Menshevik political consolidation, border conflicts with Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the constant threat of Bolshevik encroachment from the north.
Georgia's independence lasted barely three years. Soviet forces invaded in February 1921, and the currency became void almost immediately — leaving large quantities of these higher denominations unspent and subsequently available to collectors in grades that don't reflect any real circulation history.
