1000 Roubles

Georgia's Democratic Republic lasted only three years before Soviet annexation in February 1921, and its paper currency reflects that compressed, precarious existence. The 1000 Rouble note of 1920 was issued during a period of severe inflation and acute shortage of hard currency, conditions that plagued every Transcaucasian successor state following the collapse of Russian imperial authority.

The notes were printed locally under considerable constraint — not by one of the major Western security printers — which accounts for the relatively modest production quality seen across the P#14 series. Georgia's monetary experiment ended abruptly when the Red Army crossed the border, and remaining stocks were rendered worthless almost immediately.
