| Obverse description | Intaglio portrait of Sir Charles Gaëtan Duval QC (1930–1996) occupies the left half of the note against a multicolour guilloche underprint with ornate rosette patterns in orange and red. The bank title BANK OF MAURITIUS and the denomination Rs 1000 appear at the top in bold letterpress, with the legal tender clause and denomination spelled out in English, Tamil, and Hindi in the centre field.
