| Beschrijving voorzijde | The Indonesian national emblem, Garuda Pancasila, is depicted at center with wings spread wide, clutching a banner inscribed 'BHINNEKA TUNGGAL IKA' in its talons. A quartered shield rests on the eagle's chest bearing the five Pancasila symbols, including a star, chain, banyan tree, bull's head, and rice and cotton. The date range '1945-1970' arcs across the upper field, flanked by the mint mark 'IB' to the left and the year '1970' to the right. The denomination '1000 RUPIAH' is inscribed in large characters along the lower rim. The design is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. |

General Sudirman commanded Indonesian republican forces against the Dutch during the 1945–1949 independence struggle while suffering from advanced tuberculosis — he conducted guerrilla operations in Java carried in a litter because he was too ill to walk. He died in January 1950, just months after sovereignty was formally transferred, and became the foundational military hero of the republic. This 1970 issue was struck as part of Indonesia's first commemorative silver program, timed loosely with international recognition of the country's development-era coinage ambitions under Suharto's New Order government.
