Robert Kalina designed the entire 1997 Austrian Schilling series before Austria adopted the euro — he went on to win the competition to design the original euro banknotes, which entered circulation in 2002. The visual language he developed for these late-Schilling notes fed directly into that work.
This is the highest denomination of the final Schilling series, which was legal tender for a remarkably short window. The euro changeover in January 2002 rendered it obsolete after barely four years of issue, limiting circulation exposure considerably.
