| Obverse description | Intaglio-engraved three-quarter facing portrait of Austrian hydraulic engineer Viktor Kaplan (1876–1934) occupies the right half of the note, with his name and life dates inscribed alongside. The left half carries an elaborate multicolour guilloche underprint with three facsimile signatures above the bold letterpress legend TAUSEND SCHILLING; denomination numerals 1000 appear in large oval cartouches at each corner. The issuing authority OESTERREICHISCHE NATIONALBANK and the date WIEN, AM 2. JÄNNER 1961 are printed across the upper centre, with engravers' and designer's credits at the lower right margin. |
