Kazakhstan established its own banknote printing facility in Almaty in 1997, making it one of the few post-Soviet states to achieve full domestic production within a decade of independence. This 1000 Tenge belongs to the long print run that spanned over a decade from that facility, a period during which the National Bank periodically updated security specifications without changing the underlying design — which is why notes from 2006 and 2017 share the same Pick number despite minor technical differences in thread and watermark construction.
