| Beschrijving keerzijde | A highly detailed, finely engraved frontal portrait of a long-haired cat — identified as a Pallas's cat (Otocolobus manul), native to the Mongolian steppe — fills the reverse field. The fur is rendered with exceptional artistry through closely incised lines conveying texture and depth. The eyes of the cat are set with two inset diamond stones (each 0.1 karat total), lending a striking three-dimensional quality to the design. The date 1999 is inscribed in the lower right portion of the field, partially overlapping the base of the composition. A reeded border encircles the entire design. |

Mongolia's late-1990s commemorative gold program was produced largely for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation, with the Bank of Mongolia contracting several European mints to strike small-edition wildlife and nature themed pieces during this period. The "Cat" issue almost certainly depicts the Pallas's cat (Otocolobus manul), native to the Mongolian steppe and a recurring subject in the country's commemorative output of this era.
