Obverse description To the left, a finely engraved intaglio vignette of the main hall of Takebe Shrine; to the right, a portrait of the legendary hero Yamato Takeru no Mikoto. Vertical Japanese inscriptions identify the issuer and denomination, with a legend designating the note as a convertible Bank of Japan obligation exchangeable for one thousand yen in gold. The imprint of the Cabinet Printing Bureau appears at the lower margin.
