Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features a highly detailed relief of a coiling East Asian dragon in traditional style, occupying the majority of the pentagonal flan. The legend 'SATSUMA' is inscribed in Latin characters across the upper portion of the coin, with the date '2021' positioned above it near the apex. Below the dragon, the Japanese kanji inscription '薩摩藩' (Satsuma Domain) appears in large characters within the lower field. The design is executed against a dark, frosted background field, enhancing the contrast with the raised devices.

Beschrijving keerzijde Central field depicts a standing armored samurai warrior in full traditional regalia alongside a classic Japanese architectural structure, rendered in detailed relief. The denomination '千円' (1,000 Yen) is inscribed in kanji characters within the field. The engraver's initials 'ВБ' (Vitaly Bakhtinov) appear as a maker's mark. The composition is set against a dark frosted background field consistent with proof-style production, within the pentagonal format of the flan.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued as part of Japan's ongoing 47 prefectures coin program, this piece represents Kagoshima Prefecture — the successor to Satsuma Domain, the southwestern han whose samurai class bankrolled and fought the 1877 Seinan War, Japan's last major samurai uprising. Satsuma's defeat at the hands of a conscript army effectively ended feudal military culture in Japan.
