INFINEX — Institutul de Finanțare Externă — was established by the Romanian state to manage occupation currency during World War II, specifically for use by Romanian military forces operating in Soviet-occupied territories following the 1941 offensive alongside German forces. These notes circulated in areas including Transnistria, the zone between the Dniester and Bug rivers administered by Romania under the 1941 agreement with Germany.
The 120 Lei denomination is an odd figure by any standard — the denomination structure across the INFINEX series reflects military pay scales rather than conventional monetary logic.
