The 14 Bis is a fantasy note — a privately issued commemorative produced by the Sociedade Numismática Brasileira with no legal tender status. The SNB has issued such pieces for decades as collector items and convention souvenirs, a practice common among numismatic societies worldwide but particularly active in Brazil.
The name references Alberto Santos-Dumont's 1906 aircraft, whose disputed claim against the Wright Brothers remains a genuine point of national pride — and occasional international argument.
