| Beschrijving keerzijde | Incuse square divided into four quadrants by a raised cross, with the Aramaic inscription reading אשדד (Ashdod) rendered in archaic Aramaic characters distributed across the upper portion of the incuse field. The quadrants display alternating raised and sunken sections, creating a windmill or swastika-like pattern typical of early Achaemenid-period Philistian fractional silver coinage. The design reflects the standard incuse reverse technique common to coins struck under Persian imperial influence in the Levant during the fifth to fourth centuries BC. The strike is irregular and the flan shows natural porosity consistent with the silver alloy used in this series. |
