Mongolia's 1945 coinage was struck as the country formally declared war on Japan in August of that year — a last-minute entry into the Pacific conflict that secured Soviet-backed Mongolian independence recognition in the subsequent peace negotiations. Coin production continued under close Soviet administrative influence, and the alloy specifications of this series mirror contemporary Soviet small-denomination coinage almost exactly.
