| Obverse description | The central field bears the main legend in letterpress script over an intaglio vignette at the lower centre showing two allegorical female figures seated on either side of a circular medallion inscribed '15s / GATTEAUX', with tablet inscriptions 'DROIT DE L'HOMME' and 'FAITS HISTO' flanking the central device. Guilloche-style ornamental borders run along all four sides, with 'XV' repeated in the lateral panels. The upper portion carries the date 'LOI DU 4 JANVIER 1792' at left, the engraved title 'quinze sols' at centre, and 'L'AN QUATRIÈME DE LA LIBERTÉ' at right, while the lower margin bears the twin penalty and reward clauses. |
