| Obverse description | Facing bee depicted point-upward at centre of the field, the insect rendered with wings outstretched and a globular thorax in the characteristic Ephesian civic style. The bee is enclosed within a laurel wreath, the branches of which encircle the entire design. The city ethnic E-Φ appears in the fields to either side of the bee, identifying the issuing authority of Ephesos. |
