Imbrus, the small Aegean island in the northern Thracian sea, retained the right to strike local bronze under Augustus — a privilege that reflected Rome's pragmatic tolerance of civic coinage in the Greek east rather than any formal grant of autonomy. These issues circulated locally alongside Roman currency without challenge, filling the need for small-denomination exchange that Roman mints had little interest in supplying at that scale.
RPC I 1736 is known from a very small number of specimens.
