The 2,000 Riel denomination sits in an awkward commercial position — too small for significant transactions in an economy where the US dollar handles most of the heavy lifting, yet too large for everyday small purchases. Cambodia's persistent de facto dollarization has long complicated the National Bank's efforts to promote riel usage, and notes at this denomination tend to see uneven circulation patterns as a result.
P#67A is a relatively recent addition to the series, and the cotton substrate with basic thread-and-watermark security reflects a cost-conscious specification typical of denominations unlikely to attract serious counterfeiting attention.
