Vianden Castle, seat of the Counts of Vianden whose line died out in 1417, passed eventually to the House of Orange-Nassau — making it dynastic property of the same family that rules Luxembourg today. The rhodium selective plating on this piece is applied by electroforming to specific architectural relief elements, a technique that requires masking the gold substrate before each bath.
