Additional information

São Tomé e Príncipe redenominated its currency in 2010, replacing the old dobra at a rate of 1,000 to 1 — a correction made necessary by decades of inflation following independence from Portugal in 1975. The 2 dobras denomination slots into the lower-middle range of the redenominated coinage, a series that has seen limited circulation pressure given the island nation's small population of under 220,000 and its heavy reliance on the euro through a peg arrangement backed by Portugal.
