The Solomon Islands Monetary Authority was established in 1976, the year after independence from Britain, and this 2 Dollar note belongs to the first series ever issued for the new nation. De La Rue handled the printing, as they did for a substantial proportion of newly independent Pacific and Commonwealth territories during the 1970s — a continuation of relationships built when those same territories were colonial dependencies.
The SIMA was replaced by the Central Bank of Solomon Islands in 1983, giving this series a short institutional lifespan of roughly six years.
