附加信息	Newfoundland's gold two-dollar piece was an unusual denominational choice — no other British North American colony produced a circulating gold coin in this value. The decision reflected Newfoundland's stubborn fiscal independence; the colony refused to join Confederation in 1867 and maintained its own currency system well into the twentieth century. These were struck at the Royal Mint in London throughout the series run, never at a Canadian facility. Mintages were modest across all dates, with the 1865 issue being the first.
