| Opmerkingen |
Fiji's 2000-dated series was released to coincide with the millennium, but the timing proved catastrophic. In May 2000, George Speight led a coup that held the elected government hostage for 56 days, triggering a financial crisis and a run on Fijian currency. Notes from this issue entered circulation into an economy under severe stress, with the Fijian dollar losing significant value against major currencies almost immediately after release.
Thomas De La Rue printed the series, as they had for Fiji across multiple preceding issues. The watermark remains the sole listed security feature — modest protection even by the standards of the period.
