Latvia struck specimen sets dated 2004 in preparation for euro adoption, though the country did not actually join the eurozone until January 1, 2014 — a full decade later. These pieces were produced for official presentation and archival purposes, not circulation, during the accession evaluation period following Latvia's entry into the EU in May 2004.
