Cyprus joined the eurozone on 1 January 2008, ending the pound that had served as the island's currency since 1879. The timing was notable: the country adopted the euro just months before the global financial crisis, and by 2012–2013 Cyprus itself became the epicenter of one of the eurozone's most acute banking collapses, requiring a controversial bailout that included the unprecedented forced haircut of uninsured depositors.
The KM#79 attribution places this squarely in the standard Cypriot euro coinage series issued from the first year of adoption onward, with no design changes recorded across the long run.
