| Obverse description | The bimetallic inner disc features the emblem of the XIII Special Olympics World Summer Games: a stylised radiant sun, symbolising life and excellence, from whose centre emanates a spiral representing athletic power, with an olive branch accentuating the motif. The legend 'XIII SPECIAL OLYMPICS W.S.G. ATHENS 2011' is inscribed along the upper right portion of the inner disc's periphery, while the country name 'ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ' (Hellenic Republic) appears along the lower left, the two inscriptions separated by the mint mark.
