Reverse description A forward-facing antelope head — identified as a leptoceros gazelle — is depicted centrally in high relief, its long ringed horns extending upward and flanking the denomination numeral. Stylized agricultural motifs including ears of grain, millet, and tropical foliage flank the central device symmetrically, symbolizing the region's natural resources. The numeral 2 appears to the left of the horns and the letter F to the right, together forming the denomination. A decorative beaded border runs along the inner rim. The curved legend AFRIQUE EQUATORIALE FRANÇAISE arcs along the lower periphery.

Additional information

French Equatorial Africa had no indigenous mint, so this piece was struck at Paris under the auspices of the Institut d'Émission de l'Afrique Équatoriale Française et du Cameroun, established as France restructured its colonial monetary arrangements following World War II. The 1948 aluminium issue reflects postwar metal constraints that pushed colonial issues away from the copper-nickel alloys used before the war.

The territory it served — a federation of Gabon, Middle Congo, Ubangi-Shari, and Chad — was dissolved just over a decade later as each constituent colony moved toward independence between 1958 and 1960.
