Bassas da India is an uninhabited French territory in the Mozambique Channel — a submerged atoll for much of the tidal cycle, with no permanent population and no economic activity whatsoever. It has never had a functioning monetary system. Coins attributed to it are privately produced fantasy pieces with no legal tender status under any recognized authority.
