Obverse description The full coat of arms of Romania occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield surmounted by a royal crown, supported on either side by rampant lions holding sceptres, and set beneath a draped ermine mantle topped by a royal crown with cross finial. Three scrolled banners below the shield bear the motto legend in Latin. The engraver's name STERN appears at the lower left of the field, and the date 1875 is prominently displayed in the exergue. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.

Reverse description The denomination numeral '2' and the legend 'LEI' are boldly rendered in large characters at the centre of the field, flanked by a wreath of oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The country name legend 'ROMANIA' arcs along the upper periphery in large capital letters. The design is simple and typographic in character, with the open field lending prominence to the denomination. A beaded border encircles the entire reverse.
