Obverse description The Central Bank of Malta emblem is positioned at upper left, with an allegorical standing figure of Malta at centre holding a rudder, symbolising sovereign self-determination; two doves flank the central vignette. Decorative underprint motifs in the lower portion are drawn from Roman-period mosaic designs found in Malta. The denomination and issuing authority inscriptions appear in Maltese across the upper and lower registers, rendered in letterpress.

Reverse description Two architectural vignettes occupy the reverse: at left, the Banka Ġuratali ta' Għawdex (Gozo) with its characteristic baroque stonework, and at centre-right, the Banka Ġuratali ta' l-Imdina (Mdina), both executed in fine intaglio line engraving. Three doves in flight appear to the right, while a commemorative inscription in Maltese in the central field records the Diploma of Freedom granted by King Alfonso V of Aragon on 20 June 1428. The denomination numeral "2" within a heraldic cartouche is at lower right, with the printer's imprint along the lower margin.
