The 1941 Faroese coinage was an improvised solution to an unusual wartime problem. When Germany occupied Denmark in April 1940, the British immediately moved to occupy the Faroe Islands to prevent them falling into Axis hands. With the islands now cut off from Copenhagen and Danish coins deemed a security risk — they could theoretically fund enemy operations if removed — the British-backed local administration authorized a distinct Faroese issue. The Royal Mint struck the coins in London.
KM#2 is one of only four denominations in this emergency set, all dated 1941.
