The Mindanao Emergency Currency Board was one of several provincial wartime authorities that issued guerrilla currency during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. These notes were produced under genuinely dangerous conditions — clandestine printing operations, scarce materials, and the constant threat of discovery by Japanese forces who declared such currency illegal and punishable by death.
Three signatures appear on this note, which was not unusual for guerrilla issues where multiple officials co-signed to establish legitimacy and prevent forgery within the resistance network itself. Pacana, Saguin, and Barbasa each represented different administrative or financial functions within the board's chain of authority.
Notes from Mindanao series frequently show irregular ink distribution and paper inconsistency — a direct consequence of improvised production, not post-issue damage.
