| 表面の説明 | The national arms of Biafra are centrally displayed in the field, featuring a rising sun above an eagle displayed, flanked by traditional supporters. The encircling legend at the top reads REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA, while the lower periphery bears the commemorative inscription SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE with the date 1969 in the exergue area. The design is rendered in high relief with fine medallic detail characteristic of a proof striking. |

Biafra's gold coinage was struck in 1969, deep into the secessionist state's losing war against Nigeria — a conflict that had already killed hundreds of thousands through combat and famine. These pieces were minted not for circulation but as hard currency instruments intended to shore up international credibility and attract foreign support for a government that would collapse within a year. The Swiss firm BAFMECO handled production, operating outside Nigerian federal reach.
Biafra ceased to exist on January 15, 1970. Total gold issue quantities across denominations were minuscule, produced during a siege economy with no functioning mint infrastructure of its own.
