| Aversbeschreibung | The obverse displays the El Salvador Type V countermark of 1868, applied to a milled Spanish colonial host coin dated between 1792 and 1808. The countermark itself depicts a Liberty cap above a shield supported by draped flags, struck within a small incuse circle (variants range from 10 to 12 mm in diameter, with or without rays above the cap, and with or without flanking branches). The host coin's reverse — now serving as the countermarked face — shows the crowned Royal Arms of Castile and León, quartered with castles and lions, with a central escutcheon, all within a milled border. The surrounding legend of the host coin reads HISPAN ET IND REX, with mint mark and assayer initials visible to the left, and the denomination marker 2R to the left field. The reeded edge of the original milled coinage is retained. |

| Reversbeschreibung | The reverse of the host coin — a Spanish colonial 2 Reales struck at the Mexico City Mint — depicts the crowned hemispheres design characteristic of the late Pillars of Hercules type, with two crowned globes flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, each pillar draped with a banner inscribed PLUS ULTRA. The surrounding legend bears the name and titles of the reigning Spanish monarch. The field is plain and the design is struck in high relief typical of milled colonial coinage of the period. Date and assayer letters appear in the exergual area or within the legend. The overall host coin corresponds to issues of Carlos IV, minted between 1792 and 1808. |
