Ceylon's Central Bank was established only in 1950, and the Pick 62 series reflects the institution's early effort to build a distinctive national currency identity after independence — Bradbury Wilkinson had been a reliable partner for British colonial and Commonwealth note production, and their New Malden facility produced work for dozens of newly sovereign states in this period. The two signature combinations across the series' short run document a specific change in the Governor's chair: N.U. Jayawardena, the bank's founding governor, had been replaced by U.B. Wanninayake by 1965, while H. Tennekoon continued as the countersigning officer throughout.
