Nepal's transition from constitutional monarchy to federal democratic republic unfolded violently across these years — the Maoist insurgency that had run since 1996 formally ended with the 2006 Comprehensive Peace Accord, and by 2008 the 240-year-old Shah dynasty was abolished by the Constituent Assembly. Coins issued across this window therefore carry royal symbolism that was rendered politically obsolete mid-series, making the pre- and post-transition strikes from the same KM type effectively documents of the same denomination bridging two incompatible state identities.
