The 2 Salomai is not a circulating banknote but a commemorative issued by the Bank of Lithuania — "Salomai" being a unit invented for the series, with no monetary value or legal tender status. These collector pieces were struck on hybrid substrate at a time when Lithuania was deep in the accession process toward the Eurozone, making domestically issued commemorative currency something of a twilight exercise.
The hybrid substrate was unusual for Lithuanian issues of this period and reflects the bank's interest in testing security materials ahead of full monetary integration.
